'If I could have a penny every time I get asked about my Kryolan TV Paintstick, I could retire rich by now!'
The Kryolan TV Paintstick is the one makeup item for which I get zillion queries from all over the world, right from the shade and how it works and where to buy it?Girls it seems are truly going gaga over this little stick of greasepaint!
This post is also a testimony to the extent of my procrastination, cause this post has been sitting in the draft folder for over 6 months!! Yes..Believe..Well finally I decided to get my booty moving and publish this HG status product post.
So without much ado here is what Kryolan says about their TV Paint stick
Firstly you need to know that this is not your everyday use foundation (though if you are a determined lass you can, I have worn it to work and trust me the makeup lasted full day without touch ups)
This is a thick foundation and goes on matte. It has a faint smell like mild Talcum powders of good old days, comes in a bland looking utilitarian cylindrical twist up tube.
25 gram tube costs INR 800/- and has a shelf life of over 4 years, but once the tube is opened you need to finish it off in 24 months. The price is very good for the quantity that you get.
Why you need to Buy it-If you attend events where you are likely to be photographed and the dewy makeup look doesn't cut for the cameras.Or If you are the bride / friend of bride and need heavy duty long wearing foundation, which will go on & on like a Duracell bunny then this is what you have to use.Or if you are a beauty blogger who needs to click lots of macro / close up images and your regular foundation gives ashy /grey cast in your pictures this baby will work for you.
This is a full coverage matte finish foundation. This works like a concealer and foundation rolled in one for me.I love to set this with my MAC sheer select powder compact for a light coverage else with Faces lose powder when I'm looking for heavier coverage.
This also works great as an eyeshadow base, it enhances the longevity of my shadows and makes the colors pop.
How to Apply- The thick texture of this stick foundation means you can't use the regular makeup brushes or sponges.I find using my fingers to blend this into my skin works best, the warmth in my fingers helps melt the foundation a bit and helps in blending easily.
Pro Tip- In my experience I have found using a primer underneath this TV paint stick works wonders, the foundation glides on much more smoothly and blending is more easier.
Shade number FS 36 blended out on NC 45 dusky Indian skin.
What you need to check before buying it-The shade- This one is the deal breaker for any foundation but more so for the Kryolan TV paint stick. It comes in supposedly over 120 shades (or so the Kryolan MUA told me),the catch is you can't find the testers for all the shades, what you would find in most stores is the the TV paint stick palette, and mostly the MUA / SA will swatch out of the limited shades in the palette and ask you to pick your shade.Very high chance that you will find 2-3 shades very close to your skin tone
How to buy it?- If you are buying this strictly for photography related purpose, carry a camera along, as the shade should look absolutely natural on camera.
Buy this paint stick during the day time so you get a clear idea about the shade, don't swatch it on your wrist, try it on your jaw line and your nose area.Blend out 2-3 swatches which are closest to your skin tone.Step out of the store in natural light and then check in mirror which shade matches you better.Next click a few pics, in natural light and check the images the shade which looks closest to your skin in the perfect match.I know sounds too much of an effort, but its absolutely worth it.
Since I've bought this TV paint stick for almost all eye makeup look close ups, for parties & events this is my go to foundation.I love this no nonsense product and it makes my whole makeup routine so damn easy.
Where to buy it? Most cities have some specialty makeup stores catering to Pro makeup artists or those dealing with Theatrical makeup and even to the salons, these stores usually stock Kryolan TV paint stick. Check your City's yellow pages for such specialty makeup suppliers.
