Garance Dore and Scott Schuman on the red carpet at CFDA |
I've been blessed to have done makeup on many celebrities like the Kardashians, Jennifer Aniston, Kerry Washington, Angela Bassett, and Melissa Leo just to name a few. Each time, I was excited to have my makeup brushes touch recognizable women in the industry. Yesterday though, I was just as elated but the feeling was a little different. It was more of an honor. To be a part of a major moment in the life of
Garance Dore, highly recognized fashion and style blogger. She and boyfriend fellow blogger
Scott Schuman, were receiving the
CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Eugenia Sheppard Media Award. The CFDA is an prestigious organization honoring designers and significant contributions to the fashion industry. It's like the Oscars for the fashion industry. This is the first time this award will be given to a non traditional media person. It also set a precedence about the influence and importance of blogs. Like so many woman all over the world, I to am a fan of Garance Dore, which is maybe why it's was such a special evening for me. To be a part of such a monumental evening with her and Scott was nothing short of amazing.
While Melissa and I set up, Garance put on music from
Lana Del Rey. Scott went out to get Garance her favorite chocolate and he left us girls alone while he got ready. She shared with us that she was happy that a good friend
Pharrell Williams would be presenting both her and Scott with the award.

Waiting for Garance so Melissa & I have our own street style moment |
Last week Garance shared with hairstylist Melissa Paldino and me the look she wanted for tonight. Because Garance doesn't wear a lot of makeup and in my mind I wanted to go really glam with red lips and lashes, lol. But I knew that would take her out of her comfort zone, so the makeup look that we decided on was a strong eyes and sheer cherry lips. I selected L'OREAL Paris voluminous waterproof mascara in carbon black. Wasn't sure if she would shed a tear when she got on stage to accept her award so I played it safe. Also, I chose carbon black because I really wanted to give her the darkness in her eyes without using black eye shadow to smoke her eyes out. I used L'OREAL Paris Infallible 24hr eye shadows because I wanted her color to stay put for the evening and I knew those shadows would do just that. |
